Barbie’s perfectly pink Malibu Dreamhouse might not be every modern home lover’s cup of tea, but who are we to blame her for living out her design fantasies? For some, a “dream home” might come in the form of a restored MCM bungalow, complete with an herb garden and kitchen fireplace. For others, it’s a quaint desert cabin with book-covered walls and a plant-filled powder room. At Domino, we know that each of our readers has a secret mood board dedicated to their ultimate dream home—whatever that space might look like. We know this because we have one too. After doing some digging through our Instagram feed, we were able to piece together the #SODomino dream house of 2018, featuring the posts with the most likes and the most engagement on our account. From the picture-perfect patio that made you double-tap to the kitchen that made you @ your mom, your Insta love revealed everything you loved about interiors in 2018 and the ideas that will be fueling your decor goals in 2019.

While your unwavering love for lived-in spaces was ever-present, we were surprised to find that the places and rooms inspiring you the most took a turn for streamlined color palettes and Scandinavian-inspired decor. That is, with the exception of one pattern-filled room that caught your attention.

The Exterior

Long live the #Doortrait. Clean, classic exteriors continue to win over our hearts—but a pop of color on the front door delivers the bold touch we secretly crave. This pretty pink twist on a traditional colonial came to us from renovator and designer Patti Wagner, who took us on a virtual tour of her darling Minneapolis neighborhood this fall.

The Entryway

Domino fans might like to keep the mood quiet in the bedroom and living room, but you’ll never waver when it comes to first impressions. Bien Fait’s Bahamas wallpaper print is a picture-perfect example that loud florals can work all year round, particularly when used in transitional spaces like the entryway or stairwell. A power move like this only leaves us wanting more.

The Living Room

Julia and Chris Marcum are putting the “family” back in family room with three large-scale portraits of their daughters. Without spending a fortune, Julia shares that she took the photos of her little ones standing against a blank wall herself and had them printed as engineering prints to skirt costs. Complete with cozy neutrals and a textured pouf, you’d never know that this chill spot was in their basement.

The Kitchen

Our never-ending obsession with floating shelves has officially been justified by this winning kitchen by Alyssa Kapito. While Domino readers might not be die-hard minimalists through-and-through, you try to be in the kitchen. Finished with dramatic Belgian Bluestone countertops and Carrera marble backsplash, this contrasting look embodies relaxed elegance. Vintage copper pots prevent the pared-down space from feeling too cookie-cutter.

The Pantry

Bins, baskets, and canisters, oh my! The Home Edit makes staying organized look easy with this crisp pantry display. If you’re still sorting out a New Year’s resolution, getting your cooking staples into tip-top shape is a great place to start.

The Dining Room

To say that we are in complete awe of architect and designer Emily Farnham’s Los Angeles bungalow would be an understatement. While open-concept kitchen and dining areas once ruled our feeds, Farnham opted for a partition wall to create a sense of separateness (and free up space for storied art). We’re hoping 2019 is the year floor-to-ceiling libraries grace every dining room.

The Bedroom

The secret to a good night’s sleep? Plants, plants, and more plants. The botanical shelfie situation in Katie Branch’s home makes a serious case for channeling the jungle in the bedroom. With an overabundance of greenery watching over as she dreams, the proud plant mama stuck with a simplified palette of soothing grays, whites, and tans.

The Bathroom

In case you didn’t know, Diane Keaton is as obsessed with Pinterest as you are. So much so, in fact, that it inspired every room in her recently renovated L.A. home—including this zen black-and-white bathroom, where a set of paned glass doors to the bathtub promises ultimate privacy.

The Closet

We expected nothing less from fashion designer Clare Vivier’s master closet—and, apparently, neither did you. Her wallpapered walk-in boasts the perfect balance of hanging space, drawers, and accessory storage. We’re still swooning over her color-coded sweater display.

The Laundry Room

The room that you fell hardest for in 2018? This smartly designed and extremely stylish laundry nook designed by Fisher & Paykel. New Zealand’s small-space chore game is on point.

The Nursery

Jenny Kirschner has turned her Brooklyn loft into the ultimate kid’s paradise—and this whimsical nursery is proof. In addition to the sprawling playroom, the designer went all-out on kid-approved wallpaper, plush accents, and furry friends in her littlest one’s chic dwelling.

The Backyard

Abbie Naber redefined indoor-outdoor goals when the certified textile junkie let us tour her desert-chic abode in San Diego, California, earlier this year. Her tiled outdoor patio flows effortlessly into the sun-drenched dining room inside. Now, all we need is for summer to return so we can properly enjoy those Acapulco chairs.
