While Dr. Meredith Grey has chosen a life of scrubs in Seattle’s busiest hospital, her real life counterpart, Ellen Pompeo, favors a more opulent lifestyle, riddled with red carpet appearances and glamorous vacation retreats—like this dreamy, just-listed Hamptons farmhouse. According to Variety, the Grey’s Anatomy actress and her music producer hubby, Chris Ivery, have listed their Sag Harbor, NY hideaway to the tune of $3.795 million. Jane Babcook and Mark J. Baron of Brown Harris Stevens currently hold the listing.
The news may come as a bit of a shock, considering the duo only recently listed (and quickly sold) their lush Hollywood Hills home for $2.75 million less than a month ago. While we can chalk Pompeo’s recent listings up to a new year’s purge, it’s also possible that the pair is simply interested in turning a profit. The Massachusetts native, who paid a mere $925,000 for the four-bedroom spread back in 2011, is set to pocket some serious change if the home sells at its current asking price.
“It’s very secluded, very quiet,” says Jane Babcook, one of the property’s listing agents. “The home on the exterior is board and batten; a nice farmhouse feature.”
Unlike her former mid-century modern-inspired abode in LA, Pompeo’s streamlined Sag Harbor pad favors traditional farmhouse details, but with a contemporary twist: A cabin hand-built by a civil rights activist lawyer once sat on the land. Working within the home’s original footprint, Pompeo reimagined the home’s interior without sacrificing its original charisma. “Ellen was very hands-on in the design,” Babcook tells Domino.
We’ve certainly seen our fair share of kitschy billionaire-owned Hamptons homes, so Pompeo’s bright, breathable (and anything but beachy) space comes as a refreshing surprise.
Inside, soaring ceilings make a dramatic statement in the living room. Easily the focal point of the home, the light-filled space serves as a place of connection for those still lingering in the kitchen, or enjoying a glass of wine out beneath the screened porch.
An idyllic spot to feast on warm summer nights, exposed beams and imposing lanterns charm the barn-like porch, while its whitewashed ceiling gives the space a fresh and modern feel. An additional al fresco dining area awaits just beyond, on the stone-paved patio by the swimming pool.
While Pompeo is possibly moving on to a bigger and better home, giving up this incredible view is surely no easy feat. The woodsy property sits on 8.3 lush acres of land, and promises total seclusion.
“My perfect Saturday, at home, in this house, would be pancakes in the morning, and all my children running around and being loud and crazy,” Pompeo told Architectural Digest, who featured the home in their July 2017 issue last summer. Without a doubt, her breezy cookhouse was made for lazy weekend mornings and chocolate chip pancake fetes.
The crisp country kitchen boasts Shaker-style cabinets and plenty of storage space, but beware: Open shelving allows little leeway for mess.
Rustic yet minimal, Pompeo’s exclusively white master bedroom offers plenty of room for storage. The monochromatic dwelling is overflowing with cozy cabin vibes, thanks to the exposed vaulted ceiling and shiplap walls.
Built-in bunks in the kids’ room make for the ultimate slumber party space. Adult-approved details like the industrial finishes and all-marble countertops in the bathroom, however, ensure that older guests will feel comfortable in this spacious guest room as well.
Downstairs in the finished basement, potential buyers will find a full bathroom, extra storage space, a wet bar, and a fully-equipped media lounge. The dark-hued room appears to be the perfect spot to binge watch one’s favorite hospital drama series—that is, when you’re not out exploring the historic town of Sag Harbor.
Brimming with boutique hotels, charming antique shops, and cute cafes, it’s no wonder why this sweet seaside town is a favorite among celebrities like Christie Brinkley, Billy Joel, and Julie Andrews, who like to keep their summer vacations on the down low.
