If you’re the kind of gal who color-codes her bookshelves, coordinates her pedicure shade with the tint of her tote bag, and believes that arranging all the dresses in your closet according to the rainbow is the ultimate Saturday night activity, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t apply the same principles of synesthesia to your wedding planning process. After all, who’s to say that bright red lipstick shouldn’t be worn while holding a bright red rose, or that a pop of bright periwinkle on your upper eye wouldn’t look best next to a bouquet of blue delphiniums?
We worked with Carly Giglio of Stila Cosmetics and BloomBar Floral Designer Carly Ragosta to design the ultimate palette of harmonious hues for the bride who is hellbent on having her monochromatic bridal bouquet bring out the most of her makeup, while Glamsquad was on hand to create perfectly relaxed up-dos. Below, the beautiful results.
Makeup: “The focus of this look is really the eye,” says Giglio, who first prepped the skin with Stay All Day Foundation & Concealer. “The goal was to create a beautiful pop of color. Stay All Day Liquid eyeliner in Periwinkle stole the show. To finish off the whole look we used my absolute favorite: Huge Extreme Lash Mascara. It gives instant volume and curl and really opens up the eyes. It’s a soft wax formula so you won’t have any flaking or clumping. Plus, you can build as many coats for desired volume.”
Bouquet: Delphiniums, anemones, thistle, hydrangeas, and clematis.
Makeup: “The goal was to bring out color in the lip,” says Giglio. “We used Lip Glaze in Cranberry. Then I dabbed Convertible Cream Cheek color in Poppy on both cheeks. Huge Extreme Lash Mascara topped off the look.”
Bouquet: Red charm peonies, anthurium, protea.
Makeup: “Even when doing a nude look, you still want to play up your features,” says Giglio. “You don’t want the makeup to blend into the skin. One of my favorite tricks is to use eyeliner as an eyeshadow base—the Smudge Stick Eyeliner is perfect for this. You have about 30 seconds to smudge it but once it sets, it doesn’t move.”
“I applied the shade Lionfish from the top lash line to the crease and blended out the edges. Then I used eyeshadow from the Eyes are the Window palette. We focused on the bronze tones to play up the bronze shimmer of the eyeliner. For the cheeks we just did a little bit of Shape and Shade Cream Contour. Lips we kept the same and just added another layer of Lip Glaze in Brown Sugar for added shine.”
Bouquet: Cymbidium orchids, cappuccino roses, sweet william.
Makeup: “Using a blush as eyeshadow is a great trick for monochromatic makeup,” says Giglio.”For the eyes we used Perfect Me, Perfect Hue Eyeshadow palette in Fair/Light and pink blushes as eyeshadow. I applied Convertible Cream Cheek and Lip Color in Lillium to the cheeks with Color Balm Color Calm in Misty, then applied Convertible Cream Cheek and Lip Color in Lillium on top for added pigment.”
Bouquet: Salmon peonies, garden roses, painted ferns, eucalyptus.
Makeup: “Keep in mind that lip and cheek generally should be harmonious in color,” says Giglio. “The Convertible Cream Cheek and Lip Color is perfect for this—I used the peach shade Gerbera. We kept the lip simple with Apricot Lip Glaze, which is high in shine, but soft in color. Then I used the Matte N’ Metal palette on the eyes—it has the perfect blend of matte and shimmer.”
Bouquet: Juliet garden roses, protea, garden spray roses, hypericum, alstroemerias.
