One of the biggest complements you can receive about your home is someone telling you it smells good. You know who hears a lot of that? Hilary Duff. Even with four kids running around, her house always has a fresh aroma. She’s the chief brand director of Below 60, a line of plug-in air-fragrance devices that rely on essential oils, after all—Duff has access to all of the company’s scents, including the newest launch exclusively available at QVC. In addition to releasing two starter kits on the shopping platform, Below 60 debuted a super-timely fragrance that’s filling Duff’s home at this very moment. Ahead, we caught up with the actress and entrepreneur about the nature-inspired scent and all the other tasks occupying her thoughts this spring.

The Scent in My House Right Now

Meet Me in the Garden is the first real floral scent that we have, and it is all I want going on in my house. I would say it smells like fresh flowers, but it also has the complexity of some greens…there’s violet leaf, currant, and rose. Rose is usually a hard one for me, because it can smell very dated, but this is a very fresh-smelling rose) It’s super balanced.”

What’s on My Spring Cleaning To-Do List

“Having four kids, I’m constantly spring cleaning. If I buy something new, I try to clear out four old things. I recently got rid of all of our non-stick pans. That felt really good. I also got rid of all my plastic [food containers].”

The Organization System That’s Worked Wonders in My House

“I had a nursing station where I put my pump, some diapers, and other supplies in a rolling cart so I could move it around and it had three different levels. When I was finished nursing, I brought it into my kids’ playroom and now it holds markers, crayons, and activity books. It’s nice because if I’m making dinner and they have to entertain themselves, I can roll it out.”

What I Really Want for Mother’s Day

“I think it’s always nice to get something that your kids have made for you, and then it’s also really nice to have a break. One of my most favorite Mother’s Days, I woke up, had breakfast with my kids, and then I went to Palm Springs with some of my girlfriends. Every mom is overworked, it’s an impossible job and we find a way to manage to do it. The best thing you could give is one day of not wondering, What am I going to feed the kids next? Or, How am I going to make it on time?

The Outdoor Project I’m Tackling This Season

“We just updated our chicken coop and it could use some greenery. I have been dreaming about growing passion fruit, so I think that’s my next project: growing a trailing vine over our coop. It’ll be awesome to go out there and get some passion fruit to make a great cocktail when we have friends over.”
