If you’ve ever wondered how to make a space look instantly more luxe, there is one answer that works in any type of room: fluted glass. From water cups to bathroom doors, a little ripple goes a long way. But there is one particular place we’ve seen it really work its magic, and that’s in the kitchen in the form of upper cabinets. Examples we’ve seen in the past, like the ones in Maria Dueñas Jacobs’s sunny Manhattan home that were crafted by Philadelphia-based fabricator Amuneal, look expensive because they are. Fortunately, there’s a new way to get the chic finish for way less, thanks to Fronteriors

The brand, which has been around for the past four years and is known for producing stylish, alternative cabinet fronts for some of the most commonly used IKEA storage units, just announced the release of fluted glass doors. The designs are set to launch in the U.S. early next year and will be compatible with IKEA’s Sektion wall cabinets. Unlike the reeded glass fronts that IKEA currently carries, Fronteriors’s glass panels are inset (giving them more of a traditional appearance) and can be combined with any of the company’s color offerings, including the popular oak-wood frame. The fluted fronts are expected to start from $240, depending on the door size.

Wondering if this door style is right for your space? If you don’t want to commit to the upkeep that comes with open shelving but still want your kitchen to feel airy and bright, this opaque front is a perfect compromise, as it will partially mask whatever dishes (or messes) lie on the other side. You also don’t have to use them in your kitchen at all. “While it’s limited to the upper cabinet doors, you can get creative with the application and build freestanding cabinets that look at home outside of the kitchen, too,” notes Kathryn Hawkes, one of Fronteriors’s cofounders. Who said you had to settle for the solid cabinet doors at the warehouse?
