don’t date a friend

THE YOU-SAY-HE’S-JUST-A-FRIEND DILEMMA
DATING FRIENDS ARE BETTER IN THEORY

We can’t generalize this case, because plenty of friends end up falling in love and it works out. But we knew Noel’s instant infatuation with Felicity was a complex love triangle just waiting to happen. Though there was a laundry list of things to love about Noel, he could never truly cross over from friend territory for Felicity. Even though the two tried to make it work, Noel is just another guy in the long line of runner-ups (Aidan! Pacey!) we were always rooting for.

your future bff might be a total nut

YOU’LL MAKE A FRIEND THAT WILL SURPRISE YOU

It’s the nightmare all incoming college students have: what if my roommate and I have nothing in common? Felicity’s gloriously whacky Goth/Wiccan roommate Meghan didn’t make her transition to school seamless. Sure they couldn’t share a wardrobe, but as each season progressed, so did their bond. Just another great reminder that you can’t judge a future friend by her eyeliner.

take a fashion risk

ROCK WHAT YOUR MAMA GAVE YOU
GO FOR THE DRASTIC HAIRCUT OF YOUR DREAMS

That hair. Girls wanted it. Men wanted to run their hands through it. Felicity resonated with so many women because she was a total knockout sans makeup in her staple oversized sweater and jeans. She even looked beautiful in her barista apron! The entire world was aghast when she chopped it all off in season 2. Even though her shorn locks put us in mourning, it turns out she was just as beautiful without them. Leave it to Felicity to give us all the courage to cut it off. .

it’s never too late to chase a dream

GO FOR THE DREAM JOB
NEVER SETTLE

The effervescent Javier, Felicity’s boss at Dean & Deluca, was everyone’s dream best friend. He was bubbly, hilarious and knew how to make a great cappuccino. But it was his decision to ditch the day job and go back to school for his degree that made us all stand up and applaud. Javi reminded us that it’s never too late to go after a dream—even if it means having to slog through lots of coffee shop shifts before you can do it.

three is definitely a crowd

THREE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER

Ben, Julie and Felicity. Noel, Ben and Felicity. Are you seeing a theme here? The endless amount of love triangles in this show had us constantly face palming it from the comfort of our couch. It served as a constant reminder to to never steal a friend’s crush and to try and date one person at a time.

CHANGE YOUR PLANS
SURPRISE YOURSELF

On the pilot episode, we meet Felicity at her high school graduation and find out she’s Stanford-bound. We also find out about her longtime crush on schoolmate Ben and just how serious it is when she decides to ditch the California dreaming and follow him to the Big Apple. Risky? Yes. Rife with drama? You bet. They end up in school together and (spoiler alert!) end up together by the season finale too. Turns out those great risks really can end in great rewards.
