Come the holidays, your guest room needs to be transformed from your home’s delegated storage unit to a functional bedroom that’ll make friends and family feel welcome. This is a task easier said than done—you are not an Airbnb host, after all. The key is mixing a few stylish essentials with thoughtful mementos to make the space feel personal, rather than like a hotel. No one knows this better than Catherine Zeta-Jones, Oscar-winning actress and creator of QVC’s Casa Zeta Jones.
“I’m from Wales but moved all over; along the way, I’ve been creating environments that are what a home needs to be, which is safe, comfortable, and beautiful but accessible and welcoming,” she told us of the affordable yet luxe-looking decor line, which launched in 2017.
That mantra perfectly describes Casa Zeta Jones and is also the ethos she applies to curating a guest bedroom. The actress and designer opts for elevated simplicity, choosing to add in pieces that will pamper guests but won’t feel impersonal or unattainable. By picking up a few decorative items and plush textiles, you can upgrade even the most basic of bedrooms and turn it into a space your guests may not want to leave.
Keep reading for Catherine Zeta-Jones’ tips to transform your guest room into a thoughtful, inviting space.
On the most important part of any guest room:
The guest bath is essential for visitors. When my guests arrive, they have bath salts and creams to try with amazing scents. Also, lots of plush towels and, of course, a robe for relaxing.
On making a guest room feel customized:
I love to have a beautiful pen and letterhead stationery as they arrive for a personal keepsake.
On setting the scene:
I like a guest room uncluttered. I want my guests to come into a room and feel refreshed. Empty drawers and lots of hangers in the closet so they have room to unpack, stretch out, and feel comfortable.
On her guest room must-haves:
Beautiful soaps and products in the bathroom; candles and fresh flowers on the bed stand. A luscious Gracie Throw is the best accessory for a quick nap to cure jet lag!
