Almost 100 million Americans gathered to watch the Super Bowl this weekend, but our attention was mainly focused on the halftime show—specifically all that neon. The Weeknd’s performance opened on a Las Vegas–esque set almost entirely adorned with bright signs of cityscapes, Pepsi logos, and florals, and the choice was quite the coincidence. According to Pintererst’s 2021 predictions report, neon is trending.
The site reports eight times the number of searches for neon room year over year and triple the searches for LED light room, along with a 155 percent increase in searches for blue LED lights bedroom. To sum it up: Pinners are focused on major mood lighting, and they’re not the only ones. Kendall Jenner has a Tracey Emin neon sculpture in her sitting area, and Justin and Hailey Bieber have a neon sign that reads “Love for Eternity” in their bedroom.
To tone it down just a touch, do as architecture and interiors firm BarlisWedlick did and mount your phrase on a simple piece of plywood. Consider a cloud to direct your dreams or perhaps a customizable lyric—you do owe The Weeknd for this idea, after all.
