Meet Alexandra Feo, Minted + domino’s Featured Monthly Artist!
text by Anna Kocharian Alexandra Feo has been experimenting with a variety of artistic expressions since the age of 4. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Feo’s formal form of education began with ballet, which aided her foray into the multidisciplinary arts. Her passion for the arts has taken her around the world from New York and Barcelona to London and Tokyo. Feo currently resides in Amsterdam, where she spends her days in her at-home art studio developing her craft as a self-portrait artist and photographer. Here, she touches on her cultural inspirations and the perks of finding solitude in her studio.
WHERE DO YOU FEEL MOST INSPIRED? I feel most inspired when I am completely immersed in a distant culture or place – it encourages me to observe the wonders and details of my surroundings. That is where my mind opens fully and is receptive to what comes my way.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Urban chic with culturally-inspired details.
WHAT MAKES A HOME BEAUTIFUL? Attention to detail, art on the walls, natural light, and space to breath so that not every corner of the home is filled with objects.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING AN ARTIST? The freedom, the solitude of being in my studio, and the creation process of my art – even more than the final result! I also love the beginning of a new idea or project.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION? My two hands. They are the tools with which I create my art. Of all the ideas that originate in my mind, my hands are the ones that bring them to life.
ON WHAT ITEMS DO YOU SCRIMP?
I scrimp on flower vases. I prefer finds from flea markets.
ON WHAT ITEMS DO YOU SPLURGE? I splurge on art and artisan items, especially from independent artists. If it is well-made, high in quality, and there is a true artist behind the creation, I won’t think twice about buying it.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION? I visited Kathmandu in Nepal and found the energy of that place to be incredibly inspiring, very raw, and noble.
