When I moved into my new apartment, Zara Home’s Lounge Chair 01—designed in collaboration with Vincent Van Duysen—was one of the very first pieces to make it onto my moodboard. Really, I’ve had a crush on this find ever since the brand started collaborating with the Antwerp-based architect in 2022. I’ve also been coveting this brutalist vase, this minimalist stool, and this striped rug. Now, with the release of Collection 04 this week, there’s a ton of fresh items on the site, and I can’t stop thinking about the ultra-low table.
The typical height of a coffee table is about 16 inches; a side table is between 22 and 30. But Zara Home’s new low table is a mere 3 inches tall, and yes, it’s meant to go in your living room. Specifically, it’s meant to be combined with Van Duysen’s Sofa 02, a modular piece that allows for nearly endless arrangements when you combine it with the square wood slabs. Together, they create thoughtful gaps between seat cushions and a platform for lamps, plants, and books. There are no fancy attachments: it can just be placed snugly beside it.
Having a hard time picturing all the possibilities? I can show you better than I can tell you.
Set the Stage for Sculptures

You’ll probably still want a tall side table to set drinks on, but we love the idea of floating the board in the center of the room as a coffee table and topping it with an extra-large vase or sculpture.
Make an Ottoman Feel a Bit More Purposeful

Entryways and hallways are two places we love to work in seating with a bench or pouf. To make an ottoman’s position in a corridor appear a bit more deliberate, bring in the table.
Create a Cozy Reading Corner

For this chaise arrangement, we’d set a floor lamp on the platform and squeeze the whole thing into a small sunroom or office to function as a reading nook.
Give Guests Some Breathing Room

Conversing with friends on a traditional sofa is a little hard when you feel like you’re awkwardly cranking your neck to see them. Swapping out a cushion for the low table will allow you to more comfortably turn to them without fear of knocking knees.
Show Your Loveseat a Little Love

Living room too narrow for a coffee table? This long, loveseat set-up offers you a tabletop without blocking your path.
