Rugs are notoriously expensive, and we understand why. So when we see a deal on a room-defining floor covering, we can’t help but spread the news: Fashion designer Prabal Gurung (who has dressed Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris, and Oprah Winfrey) just launched a seriously chic collection for Rugs USA, and one of his designs will only set you back $85.

The entire collection, inspired by Gurung’s two homes, New York and Nepal, features 28 rugs, from an organically shaped oval one to graphic versions with dots and stripes. Some are even washing-machine–friendly. The line truly has it all, from color to style to texture. “My runway designs are characterized in these rugs through captivating and balanced use of color, ranging from bold jewel tones to more subdued hues,” Gurung says. “Most importantly, this collection is truly inspired by my global experiences, blending my Nepali roots with the vibrancy in New York City. As a result, there is a diverse range of versatility and fashion-forward designs.”

But it’s the prices that stunned us the most, especially considering that the 5-by-8-foot size of his pool-like Greenwich Abstract wool area rug comes in at $255. Another one, the 5-by-8 tasseled Soho wool rug is just $245. And then there’s the $85 wonder, a machine washable, trad-leaning 3-by-5 gray pick that would define any doorway.

We don’t think you can go wrong with the collection, but Gurung does have some styling advice: “Choosing a rug that is too small for the space can make everything feel unbalanced and disconnected,” he says. “You always want everything in your space to be in perfect harmony to protect the joy in your home. Even worse, I’ve seen spaces where the wrong size rug can make furniture appear cramped or disjointed, even cluttered!” To avoid a sizing mistake, he suggests measuring first and then making sure that a rug extends beyond the front legs of sofas and chairs. And if you have one that’s too small (but that you still love), layer it on top of a larger neutral to add depth and dimension. Thankfully, his collection is at the just-right price for buying in multiples.
