This Cult-Favorite British Lighting Brand Just Landed in the U.S.

Next to paint, cabinet pulls, and shelving, lighting is one of the easiest ways to no-reno upgrade your home. Swap out an overhead fixture, screw in a new bulb, plant a floor lamp in the corner—and bam. New vibes in a jiffy. That’s why we were over the moon when decade-old British darling Pooky Lighting launched in the U.S. this week, bringing its signature brand of traditional with a twist to this side of the Atlantic.
Known for its fanciful shades, sweet sconces, and excellent customer service, Pooky has been gracing British homes since 2014 before expanding across the pond. (Funny enough, Americans have likely already seen one of its products in an unexpected place: The popular curvy Wobster lamp starred in Barbie, front and center in the doll’s Dreamhouse.) Among the company’s eight categories, which span ceiling to outdoor and even accessories like mirrors and candleholders, is a trove of to-be treasures. There’s 100,000 (!) different lampshade and base combinations that can be created, in the style of everything from cottagecore to contemporary.
Some brass tacks that also set Pooky apart from other lighting sources: It ships nationwide within five to seven business days, there is free delivery and returns, and the prices aren’t too shabby (table lamps start at just $75). The category we’re wild about? The brand’s portable lamps, which are rechargeable and dimmable and can be used inside and out.
From personal experience, we can vouch for how long they stay lit—the claim of up to five hours is true. There are also cordless sconces and floor lamps to choose from if that’s your jam. Bestsellers right out of the gate include the Phileas, Ernest, and Walter styles, but we’re also smitten with the Twinky cordless sconce. The brilliant little product just screws into a wall, and the shade is what’s rechargeable. A bright idea, indeed.
