As we head into the new year, swaths of chocolate brown, cozy kitchens (something the English do very well), and even maximalist, statement-making light fixtures are all trends to follow, according to 1stDibs. Of the 643 pros surveyed for the site’s annual Designer Trend Report, most (27%) agreed that Murano glass pendant lamps and chandeliers are on track to become the most popular vintage lighting choice. Among those designers, the ornate style of Venetian lighting even outpaced Isamu Noguchi’s beloved Akari paper lamps.

This style of Italian-made soda glass is anything but understated. It often takes the form of sprawling pendant lamps and multitiered chandeliers in stunning jewel tones. Here’s how to bring the trend home.

Make It Matchy

The owner of this Austin home zeroed in on the power of color-coordination. Her dream Murano glass chandelier vibes with the soft blue petals of her dining room’s gingham and honeysuckle wallpaper. Her choice of Murano-style wineglasses brings a little bit of that Italianate decadence down to earth, while painting the dining room’s trim in a complementary shade of mauve helps the whole scene pop.

Hunt for Neutrals

If you’re looking for a neutral Murano moment, be prepared to follow in the footsteps of the owners of this London townhouse by being very, very patient. “Many hours” spent trawling vintage marketplaces like 1stDibs finally yielded the cascading petal-drop chandelier of their dreams.

Try Something Speckled

Vintage-inspired British fashion label Rixo is best known for its audacious prints, so it makes sense that cofounder Orlagh McCloskey chose to liven up her neutral kitchen with speckled Murano glass pendant lamps, which put a fresh take on the trend.
