The design world has spent the past few years doing everything it can to get rid of sad “boob lights.” You know, the landlord-grade, flush-mount fixtures that get their nickname from their dome shades and protruding tips? Simply covering them has become a popular fix for renters (and an actually appealing solution thanks to brands like Tulip that make chic shades just for this scenario). But maybe the answer isn’t always that opaque glass boob lights need to be hidden, perhaps it’s just that they need to be replaced with a version that’s a little…softer.

Dome lights with structured, fabric shades in both pendant and flush mount form are starting to show up everywhere: quirky-cool living rooms, eclectic dining rooms, zen bedrooms. When Lulu and Georgia collaborated with Disc Interiors in October, it introduced a $298 version wrapped in linen. If pronounced pleats are your thing, Swedish brand Watt & Veke has a $442 fixture that is equal parts airy and scrunchy. Go the vintage route and maybe you can score a flowy Celestia shade by Tobia Scarpa for a cool $9,500.
Based on the prices we shared above, to get in on the boob light 2.0 trend, we assumed we’d have to spend a small fortune. Then, we uncovered Possini’s Planetarium Modern Ceiling Light Flush Mount. The fixture usually retails for a mere $130 and is available through a whole host of retailers, including Walmart, Target, Lamps Plus, Amazon, Macy’s, Walmart.
What we love most about the Planetarium light is how big it is. At 21” wide and 7” high, it’ll give off that warm kind of glow you’d expect to get from an airy paper lantern. The chrome metal accents are also super in line with furniture trends right now, so there’s a strong likelihood that it will blend in with other items in your space. The product is also well-reviewed. One Target customer noted hers was “much prettier than the picture” (when does that ever happen?) and others on Lamps Plus’ site noted how the white shade takes on a nice ivory tone when the bulb is in and turned on.
Here are six more breezy flush mounts we think could start a full-on boob light revolution.
