A hotdog—and an outdoor house? Costco does it again: Just in time for pool season, the retailer has launched the Sunjoy Cape Blue Hardtop Screenhouse, a screened-in backyard structure that provides a shady spot for lounging while keeping bugs at bay. The 12-by-16 foot octagonal room, which costs just under $4k, comes in two color options (tan and white) and has two sliding doors, also outfitted with screens for breezy days and nights.
Truthfully, we’ve been fans of Costco’s outdoor structures for a while now. (Remember this backyard beauty? I do—readers even DMed me about how to get one when it instantly sold out.) But there’s something different about this new release: It comes with a bit more built-in style. Thanks to its powder-coated aluminum frame, steel roof, and traditional shape, it’s a pool house without being a full-on pool house, and the overall aesthetic is undeniably Nancy Meyers-like.
Best of all, the screenhouse is a clean slate for layering in the stylish director’s coastal grandmother vibe. Because the structure doesn’t include flooring, you can add a durable woven sisal rug topped with beachy floor poofs to build a cozy vibe from the ground up. There’s even a hook in the ceiling for a plug-in pendant.
Plus, with enough space for an overstuffed set of outdoor sofas—like these upholstered ones, which we only wish had skirts for the full effect—and a coffee table, you can truly outfit the space to be a beachside paradise. Stock it with lightweight Turkish-style towels that can double as wraps on chilly nights, and you’ve built yourself a soothing oceanside hideaway, even if you live in a landlocked state.
