A cotton sheet set might not seem like the most exciting gift to receive during the holidays, but for Abigail Koffler, the publicist and writer behind the This Needs Hot Sauce newsletter, it completely turned her bedtime routine around. Her mom had first heard about Hotel Signature’s 800 Thread Count Sheet Set back in 2023 through two of Koffler’s aunts. How’d they come across them, you might ask? Costco, naturally.

While sold at a number of big-box stores including Walmart, the 100 percent cotton, sateen-weave sheets have really won over Costco shoppers. There are 12,739 reviews online (and counting), amounting to a 4.6/5 star rating. Amidst some suggestions that the fabric wears after just a few washes, many people—including an Airbnb owner who tosses them in the laundry 15 times a month—praise how luxurious they feel for the $100 price point. Rather than sift through all the comments, we decided to go straight to Koffler for her take.

For starters, she’s only a fan of the white color (there’s also dark blue, light blue, gray, and beige). “The white lends a calming, hotel vibe to my bedroom. Plus, they go with everything if I change up the rest of my bedding,” she shares. So far, Koffler hasn’t had an issue with the quality of the bedding or experienced any noteworthy tears from throwing them in the washer-dryer. “They’ve held up well,” she admits, noting how she’d dabbled in bamboo sheets in the past but didn’t love how they stretched out after a while.

Most importantly, the cotton’s softness has stuck. They feel crisp and inviting when she gets into bed to read after a long day. And if for some reason she happens to drink a cup of coffee (or wine) from the comfort of her covers, she’s not going to stress if she spills. “The price point of these sheets is just right for me—they feel luxe, but I wouldn’t be devastated if they got a stain and needed to be replaced,” Koffler says. The only downside is that they occasionally sell out—luckily that’s not the case right now.
