These Craft Kits Are Technically for Kids—But We’re Not Here to Judge

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell prove that adults love them, too.

Last month Dax Shepard posted a video of his wife, Kristen Bell, catching him in the act: painting a diagram of the solar system from KiwiCo’s astronaut starter kit. Sure, the kit is meant for kids ages 5 and up, but as Shepard reminds us, as a man in his 40s, he technically falls into that category.

Besides, kids don’t get to have all the fun. And thankfully, gone are the days of kitschy camp crafts. There are some swear-to-goodness stylish crafts out there that both little ones and adults can enjoy making (and actually wearing or using afterward). Plus taking a step back from your laptop to start a hands-on project with your children can be a seriously soothing experience. Here are five to try with your family—or solo.

Wax Poetic

Candle DIYs are everywhere these days, and this easy project makes three geometric columns that you can customize in any colors you like. Then set them on the dining room table and let ’em burn, baby.

Pack a Punch

This needle punch pillow kit makes one fuzzy accessory for a bed or sofa—and because you can choose your own design, it will perfectly complement your existing decor.

A Fine Yarn

Even first-timers can get their purl on with a kit that has everything you need—from needles to skeins to clear instructions—for knitting a scarf or wrap.

Watercolor Theory

This aptly named palette goes by All The Feels and has 12 soothing shades inspired by the deep blue Pacific Ocean and vibrant green meadows. Each one is an instant mood booster.

Wrist Action

So long, macaroni necklaces. This chic kit comes with old closures and enamel beads that you can string in any pretty pattern you like.
