Our Chief Content Officer’s Sofa Wouldn’t Look Complete Without This Accent

And we found a perfect dupe for less.

Nearly every time I visit chief content officer Kate Berry’s apartment, it feels like there’s a new pile of throw pillows on her sofa to drool over, from Heather Taylor Home checks to Svenskt Tenn florals to HK Living stripes. But one thing always stays the same: the presence of her citrine velvet cushions she had custom-made years ago. “Without these, my sofa would look incomplete, says Berry of the living room staple. “There’s texture and depth to velvet; it picks up light and has a luster.”

However, you don’t need to go the bespoke route to get your hands on a perfect set. Annie Selke just released a collection of sorbet-hued pillows, and we’re seriously eyeing the gold colorway, a close cousin to Berry’s creations. With coral, ice, and chartreuse as runners-up, there’s a palette-cleansing complement to any print. “A solid velvet is the binding agent for opposites,” she says.

Sumptuous cushions are not only the backdrop of Berry’s space—they’re great for photo shoots, too. “They fit in just as well in a modern home as they do in a traditional home, never failing to add that extra hit of vibrancy,” she says. Thanks to them, it’s always sunny in Berry’s world.
