We’re Replacing Relaxed Linen With Crisp Hotel-Style Bedding This Fall

Hello, classic percales and luxurious sateens.

It’s no secret that linen bedding is our editors’ go-to; the lived-in textile is as unfussy as it gets. But after a summer filled with travel and hotel stays, crisp percale and luxurious sateen sheets are on our minds. Because, hey, if extending summer as long as we possibly can means transforming our bedrooms into a fancy five-star suite, we’re up for the task.

If you’ve written off hotel-style bedding as boring, hear us out. While traditional all-white sets epitomize a serviced room, we also found colorful embroidered designs with charming tailored bolster pillows to complete the look. But if simple is what you’re in the market for, there’s plenty in that department. Take Parachute’s new Resort collection, for instance; it may be plain black and white, but an evening spent on the 100% organic cotton sateen is a luxury experience on par with a night at the Ritz.

There’s no rule that your bed has to have personality. We find a bright white sea of sheets to be quite serene. There’s a surprising amount of variety in this straightforward category: from H by Frette’s assortment procured by actual hotels to Revival’s cool-to-the-touch washed cotton sets (a Domino favorite).

Piping, embroidery, and tape borders bring a heavy dose of sophistication. The Bowery Hotel does it best with its iconic red-bordered bedding in every room. We have a sweet spot for Matouk’s scalloped Mirasol collection, inspired by the storefront awnings of Palm Beach. If a full set is out of your budget, you can always snag just the shams and pair them with a plain white duvet.

When tying the hotel-style look together, not just any decorative pillow will achieve the high-end aesthetic. Swap your solid lightweight linen lumbar for a cover that’s crafted out of an equally polished material (raw silk, velvet, soft mohair). Go bold with a pattern and keep it classy with a tailored bolster pillow.
