When Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard met Amber and Chris Earl through mutual friends, they instantly bonded over the beauty of built-ins. The Nobody Wants This star and her family were in need of some ultra-functional solutions at home (their bedroom is the biggest clutter culprit) and, luckily for them, the Earls specialize in designing clever storage furniture and custom woodwork. Under their eponymous brand Earl, they’ve crafted everything from a bar with a slide-out ice tub to a chic dog bed with a hidden drawer. They were most certainly up to the task.
In addition to tackling a few bespoke creations for the actors’ bedrooms and office (pictured above), they were able to instantly tidy up the space with hero pieces like their Lapilo Desk, Lapilo Ottoman, and Kabot Storage Trunk. Ahead, Bell reveals the updates that made the biggest difference and a few of her other favorite organization finds.
The Best Built-In We’ve Added to Our Home
We didn’t know what to do with the entry to our bedroom. It had awkward angles and the lay out caused it to become a dump zone for all kinds of stuff. To start, Amber recommended removing the drapes around the window since they took up so much space on the wall and suggested turning them into a Roman shade. Then, they created more closet space by designing and making two built-in wardrobes that span the entry and are covered with mirrored doors. The best part is, in between the wardrobes Chris designed a custom desk that fits perfectly, along with a comfy Earl Moresby chair.
