You know that sliver of space between your countertop and the stove? The one that somehow attracts crumbs and errant recipe ingredients? If you’re like our editors, it’s annoying at best and the bane of your existence at worst. A sampling of Slack reactions to the topic: “The worstttt,” “Truly a black hole of despair,” and “I spilled milk down mine the other day.” All that to say, discovering a $25 Amazon fix has never been more thrilling.
We have Hattie Kolp to thank for introducing us to the stainless-steel gap cover, which checked off all the boxes for the New York City–based content creator: “I liked that this one was adjustable, not silicone, and blended in with my stove,” she says. “It comes in black and white too, so it will work with a variety of stoves.”

Kolp is far from the product’s only fan: The cover has a four-star rating on Amazon, with reviewers frequently calling out its snug fit and sleek appearance, plus how easy it is to clean (just wipe with a damp cloth). Although silicone versions are half the price, those need to be cut to the right length and don’t look nearly as polished. As Kolp noted, her stainless-steel one practically disappears, seeming to be part of her stove.

The series of tabs on the side pop out to help keep your cover in place. Push those open, slot the two pieces together, and push them into the gap. Gently pull the pieces away from each other until they match your countertop depth (up to 27.6 inches) and you’re done. Bonus: The 90-degree angle of the lip should accommodate any slight difference in height between the appliance and the counter. So really, the hardest step is waiting for your package to arrive.
