The easiest way to give your home an instant refresh with minimal effort? Change up your wall decor. Some crisp artwork is the perfect way to entirely change the mood of your home, or add a few fun elements to an otherwise drab space.
But if you don’t know what prints to use—or just find art ridiculously complicated and expensive—the recently launched “10×10” campaign from Limited by Saatchi Art might be just what you need. The series features 10 capsule collections curated by influencers of artwork made exclusively by emerging and up-and-coming artists around the world.
The curating influencers work across a diverse range of industries, including interior design and fashion: actress and fashion blogger Jamie Chung; Lonny editor Angela Tafoya; curator Danielle Krysa; author and blogger behind SF Girl by the Bay Victoria Smith; celebrity stylist Alyssa Sutter; interior designer Peter Dolkas; Rue Magazine managing editor Kelli Lamb; interior designer Amber Lewis; Consort co-founder Mat Sanders; and Robert and Christina Martinez of the New Darlings. With such a diverse crowd to choose from, you’re bound to find a print that suits your signature style—or even experiment a bit.
Saatchi Art has revealed one collection each day since September 12, with the final collaboration (the New Darlings) launching September 21. Prints start at $75, and each is created using museum quality archived materials, accompanied by individually numbered Certificates of Authenticity. Custom frame options are also available in solid wood, and each framed artwork ships ready to hang––right out of the box.
Domino sat down with Rebecca Wilson, chief curator of Saatchi Art, to explore her inspiration behind this unique collaboration.
What inspired the creation of this collection?
We wanted to showcase our high-quality limited edition prints through the eyes of trusted influencers. We invited key tastemakers within their own industries, each of whom has a distinct style and perspective that we felt art buyers would connect well with.
Our brand tagline, “Let Art Tell Your Story,” exemplifies the mission behind Limited. Through their individually curated collections, these 10 influencers have been able to tell their own stories to an art-buying audience attracted to high-quality, curated artworks at approachable prices.
How did you choose the influencers?
Art crosses many different categories—from fashion to interior design to travel—so we wanted to show how these categories intersect and are interpreted through art. Each influencer we worked with had an enthusiasm for art—some with more knowledge than others, but all with a specific point of view. Choosing art is a very personal experience, so we’re thrilled they gave us such great insight into the art that inspires them.
What aspects about each collaboration differs it from the other ones in this collection?
When you look at each collection, you can immediately feel the tone and style of the influencer behind it. Fashion stylist Alyssa Sutter was inspired by minimalist, earth-toned works, while seascapes with cool, blue colors are prominent in Amber Lewis’ collection. With each “10×10” collection, you quickly get an idea of each influencer’s personal aesthetic, which can help people identify their own taste and style when discovering artworks on Limited.
What’s your personal favorite piece from the collection?
I love so many of the works, but I’m going to choose Robert von Bangert’s “Varazze” because it is one of a series of prints he made especially for our launch of Limited.
How did you make the collection work for a number of different budgets? How can a consumer use Limited by Saatchi Art to decorate the home?
We wanted to ensure we have a wide range of prices to suit different budgets. So, depending on the number of prints in the edition and the size of the print, we have framed prints starting at $150 and going up to $5,000.
I would recommend first thinking about the space you have available, and whether or not you’d like to hang one large statement piece or curate your owngallery wall
From there, I would look at our “Shop by Room” collections, which feature works chosen by Saatchi Art’s curators based around specific rooms and themes. (Examples include “Office: Photography” or “Hallway: Botanicals.”) Every limited edition comes with framing options, so it will arrive beautifully mounted and ready to hang.
Sounds super easy. So, for the consumer who knows his or her specific style, how would you describe each collaboration?
Robert and Christina Martinez—eclectic
What’s special about this collaboration? How have people been reacting?
The feedback from artists and consumers has been incredibly positive. Limited by Saatchi Art gives the artists we represent an additional way to showcase their art to a wider audience, and the accessibility of limited edition prints is perfect for a range of buyers—including millennials, new homeowners, and designers working on offices, hotels, and residential projects. Limited editions also make perfect gifts, and with the holidays around the corner, we’re confident that people will be choosing framed prints to give as a lasting and very special gift.
