Meet Patricia Vargas, Minted + domino’s Featured Monthly Artist!
Growing up, Patricia Vargas used to watch her mother paint the most beautiful landscapes. At 10 years old, she decided to try her hand at it and the rest, as they say, is history. This process of creating served Vargas well, as she sought it through high school and eventually as an area of study in college. Following graduation, Vargas pursued web design, or what she thought would be a more viable career option. Feeling unfulfilled, she took a leap of faith to pursue her true passion, painting. Today, Vargas is in the midst of her fourth year as a full time artist, within her own Parima Creative Studio. She gave us a peek inside her colorful studio and touched on the spots that inspire her work the most. Take a look!
Where do you feel most inspired?
I feel most inspired when I am out exploring the world or when surrounded by nature. One of my favorite places to visit is the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena. There is so much color, texture, and life and my camera is always full of pictures by the time I leave.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is clean and modern with a hint of glamour. Gold accents, soft textures, and pops of bright colors.
What makes a home beautiful?
Creating a comfortable and functional space sprinkled with items that hold a special meaning. A beautiful home should make you feel good when you walk in.
What do you love most about being an artist?
I think it’s really amazing, and at times it feels surreal knowing that there are people all over the world who have my art hanging in their homes because they connect with it at both a visual and emotional level.
What is your most prized possession?
My set of Harry Potter books. I’ve had them since I was ten years old and they have their own shelf in my office.
On what items do you scrimp?
Clothes that I wear on a daily basis. I somehow manage to ruin all of my clothes with paint, even though I try to be super careful. I also like finding good deals on antique accent pieces and sprucing them up.
On what items do you splurge?
Art supplies, because I can never have too many! Also, fresh flowers. Peonies are my absolute favorite and I get them whenever I find them. When they’re in season, I go a little crazy.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
I love visiting the beautiful cliffs, mountains, and clear beaches of the Catalina Island. My fiancé is from there so we visit a few times a year.
