Cinco de Mayo is around the corner and we’re celebrating with an ode to a classic street treat: spicy fruit cups. These delectable cups make for a welcome twist on a standard serving of fruit, elevated with a burst of flavor that comes in the form of a freshly-squeezed lime and chili garnish. Whip them up in under five minutes for a crowd-pleasing treat at your next fete. Here’s how!

What You’ll Need:

  • Fruit

    – Mangoes are a classic, but we also added in pineapples, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Experiment with various flavor pairings and even vegetables! Jicama, papaya, and cucumber are great alternatives that will balance out the sweetness of the fruit.

  • Spice Mix

    – Blend together a combo of chili powder and harissa seasoning.

  • Limes

    – Reserve about half a lime for every two cups of the fruit.

  • Sea Salt

    – For garnish.

Begin by slicing the fruit into sticks that are roughly 1-inch thick and drizzle each with a splash of lime. Save the scraps for a fruit salad or use them to infuse water!

Place a handful of each of the fruit into a medium bowl and add about a tablespoon of the spice mix on top. Add more or less according to taste and preferred degree of spice. Gently mix so that the fruit sticks are thoroughly covered in the spice rub. Lightly sprinkle with the sea salt flakes.

Assemble the fruit sticks in a glass, garnish with a lime wedge, and serve!
