When we first shared a DIY of a mirror with a bright pink foam frame by Lillian Ahenkan aka Flex Mami, the responses were mixed—this design admittedly doesn’t align with all aesthetic preferences. It’s quirky and modern, with a slight ’80s feel, and over the past few weeks, it’s become one of the latest statement pieces to spread across Instagram. Whether you’re a fan or not, the foam mirror has staked its claim as a current It buy.

Abby Campbell, founder of Abigail Bell Vintage, started making her own (using Ahenkan’s DIY as a guide) after first seeing Anna Thoma‘s original design. “Interesting and unique mirrors are hard to come by, so the fact that you can make your own in less than 10 minutes is a serious game changer,” says Campbell. She sells her creations in her shop, and is donating 100 percent of all proceeds from them to resistance-focused organizations that support Black communities, such as Reclaim the Block, and bailout funds, like the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

Drawing inspiration from a similar design by Gustaf Westman (who is also the creator of the other mirror of the moment), Montreal-based influencer Tiffany Lai shared the step-by-step process of making her own mirror on YouTube. Lee Tilghman of Lee From America and Kellie Brown also shared their DIYs on their Instagram Stories. Even Kelly Wearstler has embraced the trend, with an abstract purple version by Soft Baroque.
