Knowing where to find the best furniture and decor is a skill that can take months (if not years) to refine. You may have heard this popular saying—in the design world at least—before: Lighting is the jewelry of a room. And it should be treated as such. Think about what you’d find in your jewelry box: You probably have some heirloom pieces passed down from your parents or grandparents, some fun costume jewelry you picked up at a mass retailer, and maybe a few investment pieces you saved up for and cherish.
The lighting in your home should be no different. You might find a Target table lamp here, a vintage floor lamp there, and a newly purchased statement chandelier you saved your pennies to buy. Maybe you live in a rental and opted for affordable plug-in sconces or you recently bought a new home for which you decided to invest in quality overhead lighting. For instance, I probably won’t introduce its $35,000 Alabaster Totem—a personal favorite—into my home anytime soon, but I can see myself shelling out a few hundred for these concentric sconces for my next home.

Target: “I don’t want my lighting to simply fade into the rest of my room, but I don’t want to shell out a ton for a statement light that, realistically, I might be over in a year or two. That’s why I love turning to Target for all my room-brightening needs. Its Project 62 line includes several mid-century-inspired brass floor lamps that appeal directly to my taste, and Leanne Ford’s brand-new collection offers some more experimental picks (think: exposed Edison bulbs and a wide assortment of woven pieces). With most prices falling under $100, I know I don’t have to stress about staying under budget to get the playful look I’m aiming for.
