For over a decade, Caroline Grant and Dolores Suarez, the power duo behind
have been crafting interiors with their signature laid-back whimsy. “We’re big on creating a lived-in feel for all of our spaces.” Suarez explains. For their shophouse collaboration with timeless furniture makers Ballard Designs, they masterminded a vivid scene—black-and -white
multicolored upholstery, and lots of chalkboard-coated surfaces—without forfeiting an inch elegance or comfort. “We were inspired by the idea of an eclectic, modern woman,” Grant adds. “Someone who not only well-traveled but had been collecting sophisticated furnishings for years.”

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE HOMEWARE APARTMENT AT 15 WILLIAM?
Our apartment at 15 William felt layered, inviting, and as if all of the pieces were collected over time. We loved the way Dekar blended contemporary and classic pieces to create an apartment that truly felt like somebody’s home.
WHAT MADE THIS PROJECT ESPECIALLY FUN FOR YOU?
We love any opportunity where a designer can take our furniture pieces and create a room that feels different from the types of spaces we often show in our catalog. Decorating should be fun, so we love to see the way someone with a unique vision can take our products and mix them together in an unexpected way.
WHAT DID YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT DEKAR DID WITH THE BALLARD PIECES IN THE SPACE?
The Dekar Design duo took traditional Ballard Designs furnishings and made them their own; in a style that was true to them, but still strongly reflected our brand. It demonstrated the vast versatility of our products and everything came together beautifully.
