If you’ve ever dreamed of living in a 1920s Spanish-style home where the tile is terracotta, the pool is carved into a hillside, and the kitchen cabinets are anything but white, here’s your unofficial tour of how the other half—specifically Aaron Paul—does home design. The Emmy-winning actor just listed his Los Feliz home (it even has a name—Seyler House, because of course it does), and every room is a masterclass in California cool with a historic twist, thanks to L.A.-based design studio Commune.

When asked what drew him to the property, Paul says: “So many things. The garden was planted over 100 years ago and is some of the most exquisite grounds we have ever seen. The house itself is so rich in Los Angeles history and you feel it within every room. The home is warm and soulful. And the neighborhood just can’t be beat. Walking distance to the best hiking trails, restaurants and The Greek.”

Let’s start in the kitchen. The lower cabinets are painted the most perfect deep green—proof that paint alone can elevate an entire room. There’s a farmhouse sink, botanical wallpaper that’s subtle enough not to feel precious, and a quatrefoil window, common in Spanish Revivals, that reminds you why everyone’s obsessed with old houses in the first place. “The kitchen is a dream to cook in and has been fully updated while still maintaining the charm of the home,” Paul says.

Even the entry makes a statement: a checkerboard tile floor leads to a winding staircase with a wrought-iron railing and a stained-glass window that casts a colorful glow across the plaster walls.

But it’s the bathroom that truly has main character energy. Through an arched doorway, you’ll find a gleaming copper tub—freestanding, oversized, and straight out of a boutique hotel. It sits on a burgundy marble floor with eye-catching ochre stone behind it. “A lot of times in these old Spanish homes, you have to sacrifice closet and bathroom space but not here,” Paul says. “The master bathroom and closet is incredible.”

In the living room, dark wood ceiling beams with original details keep the drama going, while a carved stone fireplace anchors the space. But don’t get too cozy—there’s still the backyard to explore. Through French doors, you’ll find a jungle-like garden with a rock-edged pool. “We added a cedar hot tub and cold plunge under one of the 100-year-old dragon trees,” Paul says. “It feels like you are at a retreat.”

Outdoor space with firepit

At the top of the property, there’s a firepit with city views. “We’ve had so many wonderful conversations with friends around that fire pit,” he says. “The house is a dream to entertain and throw parties as well as have a cozy night at home with your family.”

And then there’s the balcony off the primary suite. “Three doors open out from the master bedroom onto a balcony that overlooks the entire garden,” Paul says. “It’s an incredible place to sit and have a cup of coffee.”

Whether you’re in it for the architecture, the materials, or just the fantasy of being Aaron Paul for five minutes, this house delivers. And if someone wants to buy it and invite us over—we’ll bring the wine.
