It’s kind of fascinating how unruly a shoe collection can become without even really noticing the melee. And, yes, there are tons of solutions out there—wheeled underbed storage, over-door designs, or more traditional racks, just to name a few. But sometimes it takes seeing another person’s glass slipper-solve to unlock an organization method for your own stockpile. If this describes your current relationship with your kicks, fashion influencer Meredith Peck has ideas for you.

We recently took a tour of Peck’s closet, which is full of creative hacks. Using the room’s trim as a spontaneous spot to settle a line of shoes is eye-catching, but not the easiest thing to replicate if you, well, don’t have molding. But just underneath, she took a pantry staple (expandable shelves!) and created storage space out of literal air. This is an inexpensive addition; a pack of two shelves comes in under $35. It’s especially nice if you’re a visual person, i.e., you need to see the shoes in the grand scheme of your wardrobe to put together the perfect outfit.

I should know: I also use these pieces to store my ceramic glazes at the community studio I’m a member of, and they are beyond easy to assemble. They also shoulder a surprising amount of heft (up to 80 pounds!) and come in two colors (black and white). If they’ve worn out their welcome in the closet, you can always just move them to the pantry—they have that kind of staying power.
