When designer Elisa Baran decorates a space using the high-low strategy, it just comes out looking high. Exhibit A: the bathroom in this split-level Long Island home. Travertine tile lines the shower, a vintage Dutch pendant light hangs next to a mirror, and the walls are coated in limewash. The room is so calm and cool that you’d never know the vanity is a Wayfair find. But it’s true: Baran bought it from the big-box retailer. And while it was a steal at $600 when she purchased it then, it’s even cheaper now. As a part of Wayfair’s Cyber Monday sale, the Mercury Row Altenburg vanity is 60% off—or a mere $240.
The vanity is wall mounted and measures 25 inches wide, making it ideal for a small bathroom. The two inset doors open up beneath the sink, offering a large, open area for piling extra towels or stacking tall bins. And now that darker wood varieties are trending in design again, we’re digging the walnut-inspired facade.

Looking at the vanity in Baran’s project, you’ve probably noticed that one thing is missing: the original sink. The vanity comes with a white cultured marble sink, but in her case, the designer swapped out the surface for a travertine-lined version. The upgrade is a small but impactful one, creating the illusion that the whole thing is fully bespoke.
