Simply White, Decorator’s White, Shaded White—these are the types of paint colors we are used to seeing on kitchen cabinets. But new intel from furniture company Living Spaces suggests that we are about to see a whole lot more of hues like Hague Blue and Bluebird. After analyzing Google search trends across the U.S., the brand identified the most popular cabinet color in each state. While white seems to have won over 12 states (including Washington, D.C.; Maine; and Montana), “blue kitchen cabinet” was the leading inquiry in 13 states. Those living in Minnesota, Oregon, and South Carolina, to name a few places, are clearly interested in breaking from the status quo. So to fuel their Google deep dives, we’re sharing three classic approaches to incorporating blue kitchen cabinets into your home—no matter where you live.

The Full Commitment

The Independent Island

If you’re between two very different paint colors, you’re in luck, because you don’t have to just settle on one. To keep her renovation costs down, Hannah Carpenter and her designer, Meta Coleman, decided to stick with the kitchen’s original cabinets and jazz up the flat fronts with light blue paint. And for a touch of newness, they introduced a vibrant green on the island.

The Tonal One

Designer and photographer Emily Simms’s gradient scheme proves the smallest variation in shades can be just as stunning as a stark contrast. There’s nothing vanilla about this trio.
