When beloved British lighting brand Pooky launched in the U.S. last year, we couldn’t get enough of its affordably-priced fixtures—and neither could you. The cordless lamps were a hit among Domino editors as well as readers, and our home editor Lydia scooped up the rechargeable sconces as soon as they debuted.
Every so often, Pooky quietly drops another clever product, and this time it’s a brilliant rechargeable pendant. Customizable down to the wire that it hangs from, these lights are equipped with a rechargeable, remote-controlled Genesis cell that can hang wherever you’d like, with no electrician or electrical wiring required.
Here’s how the process goes. First, you select from one of the four ceiling fittings, which range from classic and simple to more ornate. Then, you pick a finish; there’s chrome, antique brass, antique silver, and bronze. Then, it’s all about the lampshade size. When you go with a smaller option (4.7 to 12 inches), you get to peruse 28 different styles spanning opaline glass to ruched leopard print. In the larger version (14 to 16 inches), you have 41 looks to consider, like cream with coral tape or colorful Ikat. Finally, pick a fabric-covered cord from 10 different hues.

Once it is time to install, just affix the base and cord kit to the ceiling, pop on the lampshade, and then connect the lightbulb—easy-peasy. You can adjust the cord length up to nearly 80 inches, and the Genesis cells magnetically attach to the pendant kit. They emit light that’s comparable to a 40-watt incandescent bulb, are dimmable, and should last up to 17 hours, too. The brand offers the bulbs on their own so you aren’t always scrambling on top of your dining table to change it out; just have a reserve or two to swap in quickly. How’s that for the ultimate renter hack?
