A nice flat-screen TV may be the key to a successful movie night, but your entertainment system can easily end up disrupting the design flow of your space. A media console that furtively conceals your entertainment system can end up taking up a ton of space (and costing you a pretty penny), but you don’t necessarily have to go to that length to balance your personal style and your desire to binge Tidying Up With Marie Kondo on a big screen. With the right media console styling tips, your TV can feel like a totally natural element of your space.

There are plenty of ways to make even a large screen feel organic in your interior, whether you align it with a gallery wall or frame it with books. Draw some inspiration from these spaces, and you’ll find the right solution for you.

Find your vibe

If you have a bigger budget (and care deeply about both design and screen resolution), consider investing in a more elevated TV. This space makes use of Samsung’s The Frame, which genuinely appears to be a work of art—until you change the channel to watch The Great British Bakeoff. Hung in a Scandi-style space, it’s utterly refined.

Poised in between two art prints and a birch-hued credenza, the TV in this interior blends into its surroundings instead of sticking out. An asymmetrical arrangement (flowers on one side, standing lamp on the other) makes the stacking effect even more dynamic.

Just because you’ve positioned a media console under your TV doesn’t mean you need to place the TV directly on top of that console: Mounting it on the wall gives your furniture some space to breathe and results in a more minimalist look.

An uncomplicated walnut console is always in style and provides ample space to stow away unsightly tech clutter. A single open-shelving panel makes room for more design details, like a stack of books and a woven basket, and placing the TV just slightly off-center provides a space for a tall plant and sculptural items.

Calling all maximalists: An eclectic arrangement of books and objects, paired with a patterned credenza and an artfully arranged coffee table, makes a simple TV setup feel freshly designed.

Even if you have plenty of shelving, don’t fill it all up. The pared-down look of this larger console is thanks to its abundance of negative space in-between small assortments of books, bins, and decorative items. In the center, the TV finds a neutral space where it doesn’t look unsightly.

Here’s proof that a large quantity of things doesn’t always amount to a cluttered look: On top of a locker-style console, a simple flat-screen TV finds its puzzle-perfect place amid an eclectic assortment of prints, artworks, and a CD collection.

More of a minimalist? Consider investing in a built-in unit that provides just the right frame for a TV. Small decorative accents finish the look on either side.

This wall-to-wall unit benefits from a collection of relatively neutral accents placed in their own museum-like frame. With no wires visible, the TV is positioned right in the center for optimal viewing.
