Call it the Queen’s Gambit effect: Online vintage furniture seller 1stDibs reports sales for its vintage chess sets have gone up 100 percent in the past month. We can only imagine that it has something to do with the popular Netflix series that also happens to feature a covetable ’60s-era set design.

“Board games in general have seen a resurgence since quarantine began,” says Anthony Barzilay Freund, the site’s editorial director and director of fine art. “However, the increase in sales of chess boards and related paraphernalia that we’ve seen in the past 30 days is unprecedented.”

So when you inevitably can’t look at another puzzle, may we suggest joining in on the fun? We found the most stylish chess sets you can buy online. Any of them would be a statement-making piece on your coffee table—whether or not you actually learn how to play the game is up to you.
