I live in an old school that was converted to lofts in 1999. The kitchen was really starting to date itself and it just didn’t match my personality and colorful & eclectic taste so I decided to give it a major makeover. With the exception of removing the counter there was no demolition – just lots of DIY and cosmetic changes that gave it a whole new look. The end result is a modern and more luxe looking kitchen with a nod to vintage in the color and accessories.

My favorite transformation is the

open shelving

I created. It breaks up the wall of cupboards and creates an area for display while still being very functional. The tea cups were a last minute solution solving the problem of an awkward space between the two shelves and ended up being my favorite feature. Bringing the marble tile backsplash up the side walls really helped to define the kitchen in an open concept space. I really encourage having your cupboards professionally spray painted. It’s a budget-friendly way to dramatically change the look and gives you unlimited color options.
