Catherine Dash is a freelance design editor and prop stylist based in Oakland, California (a recent transplant from NYC). When she’s not testing new products and writing about interior trends, she’s likely on set sprinkling her styling fairy dust for clients like Nate Berkus and Chairish, perusing blooms at the flower market, or wrangling her charming, yet wily, 2.5-year-old toddler Coco.
Catherine Dash spent a decade honing her editorial skills while working on staff at magazines (Lucky, InStyle, and Lonny) from lauded publishing houses like Conde Nast and Time Inc. Then in 2015, she decided to take her career freelance—sharing her writing, market editing, styling, and storytelling experience more widely.
She’s continued her editorial work—with a focus on design—for myriad publications, including Domino, The Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Real Simple, Travel + Leisure, HGTV Magazine, Dwell, Sunset, Surface, and Wallpaper. Non-editorial clients include Nate Berkus, Target, Emily Henderson, Madewell, Parachute, Chairish, Calvin Klein, Chantecaille, and Kate Spade New York, where her projects have been varied and range from making huge floral installations to designing a collection of decorative pillows, though most often focused around styling and set design. The common thruline in all of Dash’s work: creating beauty.
After living in New York City for 13 years, she recently relocated to the Bay Area with her husband, 2.5-year-old daughter, and 16-year-old papillon. When she’s not testing new products, scoping out design trends and emerging brands, or working to bring a set to life, you’ll find her exploring the epic natural surroundings of her new home on the West Coast.
Dash graduated from The University of Georgia, with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a minor in Art History.
