When we first got a glimpse inside content creator Rocky Barnes and her photographer husband Matthew Cooper’s Los Angeles home, they had only recently struck a balance between Barnes’s love of color and Cooper’s minimalist leanings. Now, they’re learning to compromise with their two sons, who leave their own personal touches throughout the house in the form of Hot Wheels, monster trucks, and toy construction vehicles. “I call their style ‘transportation chic,’” says Barnes.
There’s a lot going on in their three-bedroom ranch, so getting a good night’s sleep is a top priority these days. Coyuchi took notice and naturally asked Barnes to be their new ambassador, which came with the task of curating a list of her favorite products, from the Camellia Print Sateen Duvet to select pieces from the company’s upcoming apparel line.
Ahead, we asked Barnes to reveal a few more of her bedroom decorating must-haves. Here’s what she dished:
My Minimalist Bed-Making Approach
With our crazy, chaotic life, I like to keep the bed minimal: Two functional pillows and two decorative total.
The Best Thing I Ever Bought for My Bedroom
Matt runs hot while I run cold. The compromise for our bed is lots of light layers. The organic cotton quilts from Coyuchi are the perfect weight. They’re super breathable, yet warm, and come in the best colors. I also love their linen sheets because they keep me warm and Matt cool.
What’s on My Nightstand Right Now
I believe that the uglier you go to sleep, the prettier you wake up. My nightstand has silk hair scrunchies, a Drowsy sleep mask, and mouth tape. And always water.
My Favorite Paint Color for Bedroom Walls
I absolutely love our plaster finish walls. They are non-toxic and add so much texture and depth to a space. We went neutral during our remodel. I would have loved to do a Moroccan pink! Maybe one day, or for the next house…
The Piece of Bedding That Ties My Room Together
I love the look of layered quilts. The hand-stitching and warm colors add texture and depth to the space.
The Bedroom Organization Tricks I Swear By
I’ve tried to adapt the one-touch rule, putting everything away the first time helps to avoid pile-ups. I also fill these stash pots with cotton pads and Q-Tips (mostly smaller items that easily get strewn about).
The Bedroom Updates I’m Eyeing for Fall
I like to dress a bedroom the way I put together outfits. Mix textures, add a layer, and always choose color! Any of (or all of) these things will cozy your bedroom right up.
