Emily Ward and Louisa Pierce, cofounders of interior design firm Pierce & Ward, have the layered look down. Every home they design, whether it’s for a celebrity client (their roster includes Dakota Johnson, Josh Brolin, Emma Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Hudson, among others) or for themselves, has a timelessness to it; like you can’t quite pinpoint when a room came together because it seems like it’s been that way forever. Now you can recreate the duo’s eclectic, cozy style in your own home by shopping their collaboration with West Elm.

There was no single point of inspiration for the 100-piece line, it’s simply Pierce & Ward, reveals Ward. “I feel like we took everything that we love and put it into this collection,” she says. Because the designers tend to shop around 80 percent vintage for their projects, many of the items are rooted in the past. You can’t tell if the twisted metal table lamp or the putty-colored oval mirror is decades old or brand new, and that’s exactly the point. “Part of our goal was for it to feel like you collected it over a long period, and it didn’t all necessarily come from the same place, even though it feels cohesive,” shares Ward.

Ahead, in her own words, Ward gives us her behind-the-scenes take on some of the standouts from the collaboration.
The Nightstand
There’s a lot of movement going on in the wood. The grain is so beautiful and special. We wanted it to feel a little bit different than everything you’re seeing out there. And the drawers have the perfect depth.
The Sofa
We wanted to have a cozy sofa in the collection (it’s slightly bigger than West Elm usually does). It really feels like it can be people’s forever sofa. It’s also pretty from behind!
The Textiles
Our team collects images of vintage textiles, we shop vintage textiles, so we based the [patterns] on our favorite fabrics.
The Step Stool
We are always looking for the perfect step stool. (It’s difficult when you get a vintage one because they can be a little rickety or not the right height.) This one is so good for the pantry, your kids’ brushing their teeth, the closet…
The Vanity
Designing a vanity that we really love was exciting because we’re always searching for vanities. Some of the vintage ones are way too low and not functional. We were so excited that West Elm went on the journey with us of designing a vanity that can also double as a desk. We’re obsessed with how it turned out.
