If there’s one thing we know about Nate Berkus, it’s that he’s really into mirrors—and one style, in particular. The celebrity designer’s recent Instagram post is an ode to a handful of vintage gilded designs that have made the cut over multiple moves.
Seeing it dredged up a memory of a conversation we had with Berkus in 2020: When we asked him about the one piece everyone should have in a Design Time podcast episode, his response was quick: a gilded mirror. “I’ve seen a beautiful golden Chippendale mirror in [a home in] Big Sky, Montana, and on Park Avenue, and every[where] in between,” he said. “That’s a universal thing you’ll always find a place for.” You have to love a designer who walks the talk.
Berkus has a few personal picks highlighted on his ShopMy page, but we did some digging to find even more gilded gals to add to your mood board (or, even better, your actual walls):
Antique Italian Handmade Gilt Wood Wall Mirror
An ornate design like this is perfect for that lonely strip of wall you’ve never quite known what to do with.
Mid-20th Century Gilded Sunburst Mirror
This silhouette is giving some major Art Deco vibes, and it’s on sale.
Small Vintage French Gilded Mirror
This floral design is a dead ringer for the bathroom mirror in Berkus’s home. The seller dates it back to 1880—proof that there’s a long line of people who love a gilded mirror as much as he does.
Vintage Hollywood Regency–Style Mirror
A great contender for the bedroom vanity you’ve always wanted to build out.
Vintage 1980s Italian Giltwood Oval Mirror
For the minimalists: a simpler frame hailing from Italy. At 30 inches tall, it’s also the largest of the bunch.
