For the first time as an adult, I’ll have an open-concept first floor—the dining room, formal living room, and den in our new house are all within view of each other. Keeping an eye on my toddler will be infinitely easier, but decorating feels more complicated. Without walls to create visual pauses, every design choice must jive with the rest. One of the first things to figure out is the rugs; I need three 8’x10’s and our current hodge podge of styles is the opposite of cohesive. We’ll find new homes for those on other floors, but here I’ll be starting from scratch, an intimidating project for both mind and wallet. I have one thing going for me, though: Lulu and Georgia’s Spring Rug Event is on now through April 20, with a range of sizes and styles up to 40 percent off. As you’ll see below, some of these deals are Black Friday–level good.
Delina Hand-Knotted Wool Rug
Neutrals feel safest, especially if you’re buying a larger size, but that doesn’t have to equal boring. How fun is this riot of squares?
Kori Flatweave Jute Rug by Sarah Sherman Samuel
A big Sarah Sherman Samuel rug for under $1,000 is major news in these parts (the 3’x5’ is a mere $197!). Like the Delina, this style can be a supporting player in the room, but you still get that nice hit of pattern.
Harper Jute Rug by Jake Arnold
I’ve had designer Jake Arnold’s geometric twist on classic jute on my wish list for years. Although his Havenhurst design (also on sale) is equally lovely…
Carlisle Hand-Knotted Wool Rug by Aimee Song
I’m a blues and greens girl, so if I commit to a bolder color, I can imagine this style in our space. I love how it looks like crochet from afar.
Chiltern Handmade Rug by Jake Arnold
A solid rug is essentially a blank—but still colorful!—canvas, so you can put the $700 you save on this one towards mixing and matching everywhere else.
Bollen Hand-Knotted Wool Rug
It’s clear from this lineup that I’m drawn to a linear pattern, but balance is important! Rendered in florals, this rug is a softer counterpart to the others.
