In just a few short years, Duffy Stone has become one of Austin’s go-to designers for indie shops and residential interiors. Her firm, founded in 2013, stands out thanks to Stone’s fearless use of pattern and color. “You have to go bold when picking a paper,” she says. “The louder, the better.” Stone’s style is a mash-up of ’70s-glam, clean-lined furniture and avant-garde art, and she relies on intuition to know when she’s found the right piece for a project: “Sourcing wallpaper is like looking for great art. You just have to find what tugs on your heartstrings. You can’t overthink it!”

Pro Tip: Embrace Small and Awkward Spaces
“Ombré papers simulate light and bring the outdoors inside. For the Dylan Wylde shop, we transported the beach to Austin with a paper in soft colors. It creates a serene vibe and makes the space feel larger, plus it worked in tight corners. Find the most awkward or difficult wall in a place, and usually it ends up being the best spot to paper!”
