Why should Pantone have all the fun? Today, Pinterest gets in on the “color of the year” action. The platform you’re currently using to plan your next party, interior design project, or even just dinner tonight, just released its take on 2016’s most buzzworthy hues. Coming as no surprise to us, the home decor colors are exactly what we want to see.

“We looked at the dominant color of a Pin. Every Pin has an associated RGB value. When you add each of these pieces together, each RGB has a corresponding HEX color code. These were the colors that came to the top. We looked at the data independent of season to see which colors were trending upwards thus far in 2016.” –

Gray and mauve are making waves in home decor this year. Pinterest’s palette can further show off the shades, and help you plan a design project based on colors that come with one major stamp of approval.

“Pinterest is all about discovering new ideas and trying them out in your every day life. Color plays a big part in defining a Pinners’ sense of style, from their home to their personal look. Associated searches around a specific color like “blush”, for example, illustrate just this with “outfit”, “palette”, “centerpieces”, “curtains”, and “navy” surfacing. When we looked at top color data on Pinterest, we found that some of the top Pins were about which types of paint shades would work well in a room or how to pair pastels together. Within the home category, we’ve seen gray and mauve trending globally. In fact, pinning around gray hardwood has increased over 20% since last March, and mauve has been on the rise especially from Jan to April. In home, trending ideas we’ve seen include “moroccan tiles” , “pallet walls“, and “farmhouse sinks”.
