If you firmly believe that sprinkles make the world a better place, add San Fran’s newest museum-turned-playhouse to your autumn bucket list.
After inspiring sweet tooths in LA and NYC with their flavorful perspective and entrancing spaces, the Museum of Ice Cream is taking their sugary passion to San Francisco. The Cali-based addition will officially open its doors on September 17 at the historic 1 Grant Avenue—a dreamy setting that sets the stage for an otherworldly experience.
Offering more mature visitors a unique chance to tap into their childhood imagination, MOIC hopes to bring people together through art, innovative interiors, and interactive experiences. While their famed Sprinkle Pool—which has seen the likes of Beyonce, Ciara, and other A-listers in Los Angeles—has surely graced your Insta feed by now, there are a number of other immersive and equally impressive spaces at the San Francisco museum that serve as vibrant celebrations of all things ice cream. From a magical candy garden to psychedelic rainbow unicorns to a push pop installation, their ten thematically-crafted spaces take advantage of the senses in the sweetest way possible.

While all things colorful and candy-coated take center stage, the historic bones of the building add an equally charming touch. For Founder and Creative Director Maryellis Bunn, the Museum of Ice Cream’s latest venture was an experiment in using contemporary design and their signature whimsy to elevate the character of what was once an iconic bank in Union Square. So, if giant gummy bears and mini-ice cream cones aren’t quite your thing, the structure’s 45-foot dome ceilings and Pantheon-inspired facade will surely leave you in awe.
While many San Franciscans, Instagram addicts, and dessert connoisseurs will have to wait their turn, the deliciously designed exhibition is a must-visit this season. For now, patiently drool over colossal popsicles and fantastic shades of pink on their Instagram.
Visit the Museum of Ice Cream San Francisco at 1 Grant Ave., San Francisco, CA. On view beginning September 17, 2017, everyday with the exception of Tuesdays, from 11am – 10pm.
Tickets are $38 per person and are available in advance and online-only.
