Medicine reader and seeress Deborah Hanekamp performs energy and crystal work and shamanic ceremonies out of a serene new space by Mama Medicine in Soho. The clean and simple white space is flooded with natural light, features natural textures and fabrics, and it’s studded with crystals and plants.

“I really appreciate how energetically clean it is and all of the light shining in was spectacular,” says Hanekamp, who’s been practicing in NYC for 12 years. “White reflects energy, and this is very helpful with my work because it keeps the energy flowing and moving.”

Hanekamp’s medicine reading and multi-sensory healing experience consists of “an individual shamanic ceremony for harmony and rapture” where she performs an intuitive aura reading and offers guidance, followed by energy balancing, and crystal and sound therapy. Hanekamp is a relaxing and supportive presence, and you’ll leave lighter, more tranquil, and confident.

Hanekamp, who’s also versed in reiki, yoga, and meditation, worked with lighting designer and friend Ana Meier to create warmth in the minimalist space. “I’m really excited to be able to showcase a light fixture from Richard Meier Light, and Ana contributed a beautiful bench she made, underneath the Muuto wall pegs. Jim Thompson floor pillows and raw silk plant-dyed shawls from upstate New York decorate the space.

“I’ve always been a fan of minimal Scandinavian design, but I also love the whites and warmth you see in Southern Europe,” says Hanekamp. “I wanted to find a way to combine the two.”

Holistic health coach and esthetician Britta Plug also performs facial attunement treatments, which use traditional Chinese medicine, ayurveda, detoxifying massage, and LED therapy, in the shared space. Hanekamp calls these “incredibly regenerative and powerful.”
