Textile designer Inigo Elizalde has been creating one-of-a-kind rugs and carpets for nearly a decade. “I’m drawn to vibrant colors and graphics,” he says, “from a range of diverse sources and influences.”

Elizalde opened his midtown Manhattan studio in 2010, years after earning his fine arts degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design and working as a set designer for several New York City theatres.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Elizalde draws much of his design inspiration from the traditional textile motifs, landscapes, and even the mass transit jeep routes of his native Manila.

Elizalde uses artisanal fabrics and textiles collected from his international travels to the likes of Nepal, South Africa, and of course, the Philippines—which employ time-honored techniques like hand-knotting, tufting, and flat-weaving.

The studio also offers fully customizable rugs from an array of plush materials—such as Tibetan wool and Indian silk—which are made-to-order in just about in color, shape, or size imaginable.

“With my rugs, I want to bring the outside world inside to create a different way of experiencing the outside environment,” Elizalde explains.  “That way, the surrounding world can be better appreciated – even from indoors.”
