I have so many indigo textiles around the house, I was eager to do a fun project using one of them. Benches are having such a moment right now, and we always need extra seating at our house, so I decided to make my own bench with my textile. It may sound intimidating, but this is actually a super easy and inexpensive project. You can find vintage textiles at your local flea market for about $30, and try to us any wood you currently have to avoid purchasing more than you need.

If you’re like me and always find yourself redecorating, this bench is perfect—it’s light enough that you can easily move it around.

What you’ll need:

1. Prep your plywood or 2′ x 4’s to the size you want. I used leftover wood we had from another project, and it was just the right size for a bench.

2. Drill the hardware plates to the underside of your wood base.

3. Measure your cushion using the wood base and cut to the right size. To save on costs and to use all materials, I double layered the foam.

4. Apply mod podge using a foam brush and place down first layer of cushion. Allow to dry for 30 mins. Repeat for the second layer.

5. Lay your textile flat and place the wood base with the foam facing down. Bring up the textile, pulling tightly and secure using staple gun. Pay special attention to the corners. I opted to do a clean fold.

6. Trim any excess fabric. Screw in the legs and flip the bench over. If you want to elevate the look of this bench a bit more, try adding nailhead trim or tassels.
