Last year we told you about cottagecore, the soothing design style that’s all about breezy gingham linens, country florals, and cozy-cabin-in-the-woods vibes. At the time it was exactly what we needed to get through months of baking bread in lockdown. But this year, Pinterest’s August 2021 trend report tells us that a new, more optimistic style is on the horizon: fairycore.
Similar to its predecessor, fairycore has a nature-inspired vibe but with a bit more mysticism—think: mushrooms, butterflies, pastels, glitter, and crystals. (If you need more visual inspo, Instagram has more than 723,000 posts tagged #fairycore.) And while no one here is suggesting you suddenly don wings and pointy ears, after the past year and a half, who among us couldn’t use a little bit of magic in our homes?
Though a fairycore purist might tell you that more is more, it’s actually easier than you think to work the fairy-tale look into your decor in small doses. A crystal here, a mushroom lamp there (mushrooms are a big part of the trend), and you’ve got enough natural elements to get the feeling—without feeling like you live in a hollowed-out tree.
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite fairycore items, from mushroom yard lamps to woodsy pillows, so you can bring the magic home, too.
