WELCOME TO SUMMER! Our notion of style becomes a little more relaxed and undone in the summertime. Longer days and weekends away give us license to goof off a bit—we spend time hunting for things for our home, catching up with friends, or being inspired by a new discovery. We also notice more in these moments away from our normal routine: from the Technicolor hues at the chicest café (Cafe Henri, Page 64), to the perfectly imperfect interiors of a beachside hotel (Follow the Sun, page 148), to the photo-worthy potential of our favorite summer fruit (Melon Calling, page 140). At domino, many of our best ideas come when we have a some distance from the daily grind.
Our cover girl, Ulla Johnson (Light and Layered, page 158), knows a thing or two about summer: Her collection of beautifully crafted women’s clothing makes the perfect warm-weather uniform, while her on-point palette is mirrored in the refreshing interior of her Brooklyn home. In the summer our entertaining style also loosens up—tables are set outside—and we spend more time lingering and less time fussing. It’s about spending time with family and friends, staying up a bit too late laughing and being silly. The stylish team at McGuire Mormon Hospitality in Austin are experts in maximizing their OOO time (Under the Texan Sun, page 113). They show us how to do it right at a lakeside BBQ complete with icy paloma cocktails, bright salads, and perfectly charred cuts of Texas beef. Our roundup of the coolest lawn games (page 46) will also inspire you to get outside and play.
Wherever your vacation plans take you, bring us along, and please don’t hold back on tagging your favorite discoveries #SOdomino. Because after all, the sweetest summer moments are meant to be shared.
