You know the feeling: You’re on vacation, the kids are ready to hit the beach, and you look out the window to see the skies open up. Instead of throwing on a movie, it’s time to pull out the craft supplies. We’ve got three clever kids crafts that’ll engage their creativity, artistry, and most importantly, keep them entertained.
Here’s what you need to recreate the craft zone next time you find yourself faced with a rainy forecast and a house full of kids.

Bead Zone
Make necklaces and bracelets in all the shades of summer. Grab some neon and pastel leather cords, colorful wooden and glass beads, and lots of other charms and trinkets for them to make something cool to wear at the beach. Kids at our workshop were obsessed with making friendship bracelets for themselves and all their friends in bright poppy colors with lots of beads.
Pennants and Garlands
String together small cut canvas pennants with bright yarn in a rainbow of colors. They can make whatever they want, but at our workshop, some kids made a single pennant with their initials to hang on their doors, while others made monogrammed garlands with a series of pennants. Use paint pens and stickers to add more fun details.
Balsa Wood Charms and Sculptures
First, parents can make holes into balsa wood shapes using a rotary tool, and then kids can make charms to hang in their room. At our workshop, many kids got super ambitious and made big sculptures out of the shapes. Colorful stickers, 3D paint, feathers, and shells were scattered around the table so everyone could be really creative with adding additions into the charms and sculptures.
