If you’re itching to hop on a plane and get as far away from your desk job (and impending winter) as possible, we have an idea where you should start your search. The inspiration comes courtesy of HomeAway’s 2019 Travel Trend report. Chock full of travel intel for the year ahead, the recently released survey’s most valuable component lies in its data-backed travel recs. The travel authority mined data from 2 million home listings around the world to predict the top trending travel destinations for 2019—and not all of them are quite what we expected.

First up, the top five domestic travel hot spots. There seems to be consistency in the type of vacation people are coveting: Four out of the five trending locales are near the beach.

  1. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee
  2. Gulf Shores, Alabama
  3. Panama City Beach, Florida
  4. Miramar and  Rosemary Beach, Florida
  5. Maui, Hawaii

Intriguingly, two out of the top five spots are located in Florida. And while all of the most popular domestic getaways are definitely worth of inclusion on the list, it’s also interesting to note that none of the big cities traditionally thought of as tourist bait—for example, New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago—made the cut. It seems like people are looking for rustic retreats over glitzy urban holidays in 2019.

The HomeAway report also examined the top five international travel destinations. This list reads significantly less surprising than the first:

  1. Paris, France
  2. Puerto Peñasco, Mexico
  3. London, England
  4. Rome, Italy
  5. Florence, Italy

Feeling inspired? It’s time to bring your favorite suitcase out of retirement and coerce your most spontaneous friends into booking a trip. After all, Cyber Monday travel deals are just around the corner.
